Philip Pullman has written many excellent novels for young (and old) audiences. The trilogy, His Dark Materials, is probably his best known work. If you haven't read it yet, you really should. The three books are The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. Besides his published work, Mr. Pullman is also a compelling speaker and essayist. Recently, he published a piece in The Guardian on the necessity of the arts, particularly theatre, in a child's life. Since theatre is obviously near and dear to us here at ASC, we felt we should share the piece with you. Click here to find it. And, after reading, please give us your thoughts here.
