Meet The Cast of Walk Two Moons-Tanya McBride

Walk Two Moons opens on Saturday! We are down to our last cast member to introduce to you – and she plays a major role in the show, that of the character Sal. The dedication this actress has shown throughout our rehearsal process has been unbelievable, and her performance will be one for the record books. We truly appreciate the hard work all of our actors have put in - especially this past week – as we gear up for opening. And finally, with no further ado, please meet our Sal – Tanya McBride!
ASC: Are there any proverbs or sayings that hold special meaning for you?
Tanya: "Chop wood. Carry water." This is one of my favorite sayings because it reminds me to focus on doing one thing at a time, and with full intention.
ASC: Which character in the story do you most associate with?
Tanya: I most associate with the character I play: Sal. When I was her age, I often found myself befriending girls like Phoebe because of the adventures they drew me into. I was always the sidekick who was slightly stunned by all that I was experiencing. I didn't want to get in trouble but I secretly loved the trouble I was getting into. Also, Sal is very resentful of leaving her hometown. When I was young I hated moving, whether it was to a different house or a different city, because I was scared I would lose touch with the places and the stories that defined me. Roots and family are very important to me.
ASC: Did you have a wild imagination as a child like Phoebe?
Tanya: I had a very wild imagination. When I was six my mother went on an extended vacation, and when she came back I was convinced my real mother had been replaced by a look-a-like robot sent by the government to spy on us. It took a few months for me to be convinced otherwise.
ASC: What moment in the show has had the deepest impact on you?
Spoiler Alert, this response might reveal details about the end of the show!!!!
Tanya: The moment in the show that has the deepest impact for me is when Sal arrives at the scene of the bus accident and realizes that her mother is really, truly gone. It's heartbreaking every single time I read that scene.
ASC: Have you ever been on a road trip? If so, tell us about it. If not, what is a road trip you’d like to take?
Tanya: I moved from my hometown, Los Angeles, to Columbus, Ohio to go to school. I drove the entire way and it was amazing seeing how each state was different.
The mountains of Colorado were gorgeous but very scary when you're driving through them in the middle of the night. I had too many ghost stories floating through my head while we drove through the fog and the winding roads.
ASC: What connection do you have to your character?
Tanya: Everybody is afraid of being abandoned or left behind by a loved one. This fear has come true for Sal, and I very much understand the anger and confusion she feels.
ASC: What do you think the message of this story is?
Tanya: Sometimes we don't understand the choices our loved ones make. Sal didn't understand why her mother had to leave her and go on that trip to Lewiston. Phoebe didn't understand why her mother had to leave either. It's hard not to react with anger, but until you take time to "Walk Two Moons" in another's moccassins, and take time to understand their experience, it's best to trust that they really do love you.
ASC: What challenges have you faced or do you anticipate facing with this production?
Tanya: Choreographing Sal's fall from the tree will be very interesting...
ASC: What are you hoping someone will ask you after the show?
Tanya: "Is it fun climbing the tree?"
Thank you Tanya! As always, special thanks to Merissa Stewart for doing the interviewing. We look forward to seeing you all at the theater and hope that you have enjoyed learning a little more about the actors you will be seeing. See you at the show!
